baddominicana:

but yeah im from puerto plata, which is where sosua is, which is the hottest sex tourism spot on the island after maybe boca chica?

sex tourism is something that was always in my environment growing up, basically. there were always women in town who started working that circuit when they first built the docks and ships started coming in w foreigners, which led to hella hotels and then hotel complexes where, now, black women arent allowed into w/o male chaperones to supposedly “control prostitution?” (they do nothing to keep the sanky pankys, the male gigolos from entering, however?) and even when they do let us in, (its where the popular bars and clubs are located), you can trust some gringos to try some disrespectful shit with you, thinking any dominican woman is at their disposal.

now i see more and more haitian women also in our province, trying to make a living thru sex work because they have no other way to survive.

so because thats the province where my family lives, its where most of the exploitative pervs who are only there to buy sex are headed. therefore i must encounter a bunch of them anytime i try to go back, at the airport before i even arrive.

and god forbid i show up in sosua w these tattoos as a black dominican woman. or w these braids? omg the gringos dont leave me alone w their vulgar facial gestures and cheap fucking offers. and the dominican men will also side eye me and try shit to see if im “working”.

when you cant even go to certain towns or areas in your own province because youre seen as “for sale” and unworthy of any kind of respect, coz youre black? and you can basically guarantee that the women who do actually work that circuit are treated like absolute trash? and it creates an even larger divide between “good girls” and “bad girls” because the treatment is so heinous when you even go near the “bad girls”?

yeah. no.

(but being confused for a sex worker has happened to me in hawaii plenty too, for daring to live in honolulu where black folks are a rarity and the only scant few black girls are sex workers? so me walking down the block in sweats=nasty ass old japanese men stopping their cars to make fuck faces at me? even had a limo driver who was waiting for a wedding party in front of a church try to offer me a “ride” for a certain small chunk of change once?)

why would i NOT think black female bodies are always commodities to be bought and used and abused?

when its occurred across the board my whole life? no matter where ive gone?

story of my life.
