“A controversial cooker that ‘grows’ meat and fish by heating animal cells in your kitchen claimed first prize in the Electrolux design competition tonight.
The invention, called Cocoon, could develop food with the make-up and nutrients of real meat.
Mr Hederstierna, 27, said: ‘This will create 100 per cent pure meat without the need for animals to be killed and with no risk of contamination. It will change everything.”

This is mind boggling.

Why do I think of the Black and Decker Food Hydrator from Back to the Future Part II?

My inner vegitarian like this. My healthy distrust for using technology to solve every problem is nervous.

this is horrible. im sorry. but the problem is that once again (plz excuse the rant) medicine, technology, and the biological sciences have assumed that they can break down all of the things that human beings need from food and then create a substance that stimulates these necessary elements, ingredients: vitamins, minerals, and proteins.
when you get down to it. this is hubris. we get more necessities from our food than can be broken down by chemicals in a lab. i am tired of junk food and fast food ‘full of vitamins and minerals’. i am tired of natural food and health food that is not alive and never has been alive. i am tired.
dont get me wrong i am all for experimentation and innovation. i just resent how this ‘will change everything’. i agree with. i just resent that my daughter may grow up in a world where there is food and then there is ‘organic food’. since all ‘organic’ means is that the food is or once was alive…then what is ‘food’?
